Precision COD Reactor Precision C O D Reactor is a compact setup designed for the estimation of Chemical Oxygen Demand in water/waste water samples. The setup is based on Method 410.4 for the Determination of Chemical Oxygen Demand by Semi ââ¬â Automated Colorimetry. This method requires very less amount of chemicals and measures C.O.D. in the range of 03 ââ¬â 900 mg/L. In working, Sample, blank standards in sealed glass tubes are heated in a Microprocessor controlled block digester in presence of potassium dichromate at 150C for 2 hours. After 2 hours when the reaction is complete, the tubes are taken out from the digester, cooled to room temperature and the colour developed is measured spectrophotometrically at 600 nm. The C.O.D. value of the sample is determined with reference to Calibration Standard. The procedure is E P A (U. S. Environmental Protection Agency) Approved and being followed by Pollution Control Boards and Water Pollution Research Laboratories. The unit consists of a high efficiency aluminum block heater having holes to accommodate screw capped reaction tubes made of heat resistant Borosil glass. The aluminum block is heated by an array of low watt ââ¬âdensity tubular alloy heaters properly embedded in the block for uniformity in heating. Temperature of the heating block is set and controlled by a microprocessor based Digital Temperature Indicator-cum-Controller having key board for settings. Precision C O D Reactor id provided complete with block heater unit equipped with temperature controller, insert rack with stand to hold the reaction tubes during heating or adding sample/reactants prior to heating and glass reaction tubes. The Insert Rack assembly is specially designed for ease in storing the tube, preparation of reaction mixture or placing the tubes containing reactants directly in the heating block. The aluminum block, properly insulated to prevent heat loss, is mounted in a mild steel sheet cabinet and the temperature controller module including timer is housed in a separate cabinet and mounted on the side of block heater assembly to protect the temperature controller from any heating effect. The control module is fitted with a microprocessor based digital temp. controller and a 120 min timer. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
