Product Specification

Stack Simulator

Stack Emission Testing is an important parameter for the assessment of quantity of pollutants being discharged in the atmosphere through the stack of an industrial process. Measurement of the stack velocity, temperature, gasesous pollutants and dust being discharged through the stack is done by the stack monitoring equipment. Computation of data, including stack diameter, provide total Mass Emission Rate (pmr) of the Stack. Since the sample obtained in the stack emission test is very small fraction of the total gas stream, a high degree of skill and knowledge is required to collect a representative sample. This needs practice of stack sampling under actual emission conditions.

Demonstration of Stack Emission Testing or Stack Monitoring requires an industrial stack with provision of specified sampling port in the stack. Availability of the working stack and the permission from the factory executives to take samples often creates problem in demonstration and practice of actual stack monitoring.

Precision Stack Simulator is designed for creating stack emission conditions in the laboratory. The set up consists of a cylindrical air flow duct mounted vertically on a heavy base. The duct is provided with three sampling sites at appropriate locations to demonstrate the significance of sampling point. A powerful electric blower feeds air to the duct working as stack. The air velocity in the stack is controlled by an orifice plate assembly. An air heating facility in the system is used to demonstrate temp measurement. Suction side of the blower has arrangement to feed dust, fly ash or smoke and gases, produced through optional generators, for the demonstration of stack sampling and analysis.

Following experiments can be performed with the Stack Simulator :

  • Measurement of gas velocity in the stack.
  • Effect of probe (pitot tube) alignment on velocity measurement.
  • Effect of sampling port site on flow measurement.
  • Temperature measurement of stack gases.
  • Sampling of stack gases, such as SO2, CO2,NOX, etc.
  • Sampling of suspended particulate matter (SPM) udner Iso-Kinetic conditions.
